Freelancing, employment, and travel: what to verify
This article is educational, not legal advice. Laws depend on your nationality, where you work, and how long you stay. Discuss the checklist below with a qualified advisor.
- Commercial relationship: scope of work, fee, cancellation, and (if relevant) IP.
- Tax: invoicing, VAT/GST, withholding, and social contributions in your home country and the venue’s country.
- Immigration: whether your status allows paid work or performance on site at the venue’s location—not only how you invoice.
- On-premise vs remote: shifts or live performance on site are often regulated differently than remote deliverables.
- Performing rights / licenses: some places require PRO or local licenses for public performance.
- Venue responsibilities: hiring, contracts, and local compliance are between you and the venue.
